Delhi Culinary Delights

First day in Delhi will begin with a vward winning food tour of Delhi. This tour will serve as a great introduction to Indian food, sights and culture and will help set the tone for rest of your trip to India. There will be approximately  16-18 different Indian food dishes from different Indian cuisines and you’ll visit  up to 10 different food joints in Old Delhi, Central and South Delhi. All of the food joints that you’ll visit have been in business for generations and are famous for their quality of food. The oldest place in the list is in business for 110 years and youngest for 40. You’ll sample delicacies like samosa, lassi, butter chicken, kulfi (Indian ice creams), melt in mouth kebabs and much more. The Old Delhi part of the tour will take you through the old, narrow streets of medieval Delhi marked by old mansions, centuries old market and thousands of people milling about in their daily routine. Each lane in this area is a market for different commodity like invitation cards, spices, bicycles, cameras, utensils, vegetables, clothes , shoes, books and much more. The food tour will also include a visit to Spice Market of Delhi and a Bangla Sahib Gurudwara with a charitable kitchen which feeds more than 10000 people every day.

Delhi Sights

This day in Delhi will be dedicated to exploring it’s famous and not so famous corners. To start the tour, we’ll first visit Humayun’s Tomb, a majestic monument built in remembrance of Humayun, the first proper Mughal king. The tomb’s design was used in Taj Mahal and the similarities between the two monuments is quite obvious. Next stop will be the grand Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple, a beautiful complex full of beautiful art, gardens and fountains. It’s also the world record holder for World’s Largest Comprehensive Hindu Temple. After lunch, we’ll visit the National Museum nearby, which is among the largest museums in India. A large number of articles ranging from pre-historic era to modern works of art are on display. Later, we will go to Raj Path and see President’s House, India Gate and gardens around it. India Gate is a war memorial constructed in memory of soldiers who died during World War 1 and Anglo Afghan wars. After a short walk, it’ll be time to head back to the hotel.

OPTIONAL DAY 2: Cooking Class

It’s time to cook some of the things that you sampled the day before in a half day cooking class led by a chef and his family.  The class will begin with making of masala chai (Indian tea) along with some fried Indian snacks, pakodas which are best enjoyed hot. Enjoy your piping hot chai with pakodas as the chef gives you an introduction about Indian food and he things to expect during the cooking class. Then it’ll be the time to don the aprons and start cooking. You’ll learn to cook proper Indian meals consisting of pulao, daaal (lentils), egg plant,raita, rotis (flat Indian breads), stuffed paranthas (stuffed and fried rotis), vegetables and more. Dessert will be in form of halwa. Non-vegetarian food can also be covered in form of butter chicken, chicken tikka, mutton curry etc. The cooking class will end with a meal of all the things cooked by you. All the participants will also receive a small gift hamper of some of the basic Indian spices used in a typical north-Indian kitchen. After the cooking class, you can visit India Gate, Rajpath and President’s House. This area is the favourite family picnic spot for residents of New Delhi and is quite picturesque, specially after dark.

Delhi to Varanasi (by air)

Today you will catch a flight to Varanasi. The total flight time is about 80-90 minutes. After landing, you will be taken to your hotel for rest and freshening up. Evening time will be dedicated to exploration of Varanasi city. You will visit some of the landmarks and temples for which the city is famous. Hindu Goddess for food is called Maa Annapurna and her only temple in the world is situated in Varanasi. This temple will also be a part of sightseeing in the city. Evening will be at Dashashwamedh temple for it’s impressive aarti ceremony.

DAY 3 : Varanasi (sightseeing) 


 

The day will begin with an early morning boat ride at river Ganga. You will see the sunrise and explore various ghats (steps leading to river) and see numerous people busy with their morning rites and worship. After breakfast and some rest, you will visit some landmark temples like Kashi Vishwanath. Then we will drive to Sarnath, an important town for it’s Buddhist and Hindu heritage and see ancient stupas, buddhist temples.

Varanasi to Khajuraho (By air)

Another flight will take you to Khajuraho, the place where Kamasutra by Vatsyana, ancient Indian text about love making was written. Khajruaho is most famous for it’s beautiful temples, many of which are covered with erotic art. The temples were built in between 950 AD and 1050 AD by Chandela dynasty. Of 85 temples built, only about 20 have survived. These are situated in 2 different complexes with a few scattered all over the town and near it. On day 1, you will be able to explore a few.

Khajuraho Sightseeing

This day will be dedicated to sightseeing in Khajuraho as you see the 2 major temple complexes, one of them Jain and some major ones like Kandariya Mahadev Lakshman, Viraha among others. Apart from Temples, area near Khajuraho is full of natural beauty and you can spend some time visiting Pandav Falls in nearby Panna National Park which looks even more spectacular during monsoons.

To Agra via Orchha

After an early morning wakeup, you will get in to the car to reach Jhansi railway station from where you will catch a train to Agra. On the way, there will be a rest and sightseeing stop at Orchha, a small historical town about 16 km from Jhansi. Orchha is famous for it’s massive palaces, cenotaphs and temples built by Bundela dynasty. You will reach Agra in evening and get to hotel for checkin and rest.

 

Taj Mahal, Agra

Wake up early and reach railway station to catch train to Agra. Leave your luggage at the Agra hotel and reach Taj Mahal, one of the 7 wonders of the world. According to most people, it looks much better in real life than in photos. Enjoy your time there, soaking in all the sights and thousands of small but mind blowing details that most people miss without someone to tell them. Take a walk in the gardens and enjoy the play of water in fountains which increase it’s beauty many times over. Sit on the marble bench and get your photos clicked in the same place where countless celebrities like Diana have posed for pictures. Walk out and reach Agra Fort made of red sandstone for an interesting history lesson. As you walk through various parts of the fort, notice the breathtaking views of Taj Mahal as well as the Agra town which will come up. Next we’ll visit the historic Agra Fort which was centre of power for Mughal empire before they shifted the capital to Delhi. Drive back to the hotel for a night’s rest.

Elephants of the Pink City – Jaipur

Another early wakeup and we’ll drive towards Jaipur, the famous pink city of India. After check in at hotel, it’s time for a visit to the famous Hawa Mahal (Palace of wind). It’s 5 stories tall and built of red and pink sandstone. Front of Hawa Mahal consists of 953 small windows (jharokhas) which are decorated with intricate lattice work. After this, we leave to enjoy some play time with elephants, the gentle giants. But first, it’s time for a traditional Rajasthani lunch served in thaali (platter). Once meal is finished, play time will begin. You’ll have the chance to ride, feed and play with the highly trained and friendly elephants for hours. Ride an elephant of your choice in to jungle and sit under the open night sky around a bonfire. A demonstration of folk dance and handicrafts is also possible.

Get to know Jaipur better via a day long food tour as you explore it’s sights, smells and flavours at once. After a light breakfast, gather in the walled city for a drink of salty lassi. Rishikesh

After checkin, breakfast and a bit of rest, it will be the time to explore Rishikesh town. Walk towards iconic Lakshman Jhoola bridge and enjoy some time on the river’s beach. After that, you will be driven about 12 km upstream for a thrilling session of river rafting in river Ganga. After lunch, you will attend first of your Yoga class, which will begin with a short introductory class followed by instructions about basic meditation and Yoga exercises.

Exploring Himalayas: Rishikesh trip

Waking up early morning before sunrise, you will ride the car or bike to Kunjapuri (26 km). Reach the sunrise point and enjoy the beautiful view of sunrise over Rishikesh. After sunrise, it’s time for a walk/trek to Kunjapuri temple at an altitude of 1600 m where we’ll have breakfast. After breakfast, we walk to Laxman Jhula 13 km from Kunjapuri. On the way, we’ll come across numerous
beautiful sights and attractions like Neer Gadu waterfall, numerous birds, beautiful landscapes etc. We’ll reach Laxman Jhula to end the trek. Evening will be time for another yoga session.

Nature Walks

After breakfast, it’s time to ride towards Vashishtha cave. It’s a small cave on bank of river Ganga in a peaceful setting and beautiful beach. We can enjoy the sights and/or meditate there for a while. Next, we’ll ride to Neer Gadu or Gadu Chatti waterfall and enjoy some time there enjoying the beautiful scenery. Evening time will be for the last Yoga session of this trip.

After an early wake up, we will drive towards Jaipur and check in the hotel for a couple of hours of rest and freshening up. After this we will begin to explore the Pink City of India by a delightful city walk through it’s old markets and lanes. Jaipur: Playtime with gentle giants Hawa Mahal, Fatehpur Sikri, India travel packages

After an early breakfast, it’s time for some sightseeingit’s time to have some fun with friendly and intelligent elephants of Elefantastic. We’ll have the chance to ride them, play, feed and do a tons of fun things with the gentle giants. The trainers take very good care of the animals and they are treated as family members instead of an owned animal. After the lunch, it’s time for a visit to the famous Hawa Mahal (Palace of wind). It’s 5 stories tall and built of red and pink sandstone. Front of Hawa Mahal consists of 953 small windows (jharokhas) which are decorated with intricate lattice work. You’ll then visit Jantar Mantar, an incredible astronomical observatory built in early 18th century by Maharaja Jai Singh. After observatory, we visit Jaipur City Palace which is still partly a royal residence in addition to housing a museum. Agra – Varanasi: The Ancient City

Wake up early and catch 8:30 am flight to Varanasi. You will reach your hotel by 1:30 pm for rest, shower and lunch. Your guide for Varanasi will then take you to a tour through this ancient city of religion and rituals. A part of the evening will be spent in a sunset boat ride on river Ganga. You will have the chance to see the numerous ghaats, temples and crowds from boat as it floats by. Then you will visit famous Dashashwamedh ghaat for it’s evening aarti (prayer ritual). During your day out, you can also visit a few temples like Lord Vishwanath temple and a few others if there is enough time.

Saying goodbye to Ganga

The day will begin with a an early morning boat ride on river Ganga. At this time, most of the city is still sleeping and people who are awake are busy with their morning rituals and prayers. Unlike the colourful, noisy and crowded evenings, the mornings are calmer, relaxing and slow paced till the sun is fairly high. He temples are still busy though and you can listen to the morning prayers going on all over. Some people float a bunch flowers and earthen lamps in a boat made of leaves as a way of prayer or greeting to the river which you can do if you wish. Finish the boat ride to get back to hotel for rest and breakfast. Meet up with guide again and take a morning tour of the temples and nearby bazaars. After lunch, it will be time to collect your luggage and head to airport for flight back to Delhi.

Delhi: Delhi Delights

First day in Delhi will be the time to begin the food tour of Delhi from Old Delhi. This tour which is the top ranked culinary tour service in Delhi will serve as a great introduction to Indian food and culture and will help set the tone for rest of your trip to India. This day in Delhi will be dedicated to exploring it’s famous and not so famous corners. To start the tour, we’ll first visit Humayun’s Tomb, a majestic monument built in remembrance of Humayun, the first proper Mughal king. The tomb’s design was used in Taj Mahal and the similarities between the two monuments is quite obvious. Next stop will be the grand Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple, a beautiful complex full of beautiful art, gardens and fountains. It’s also the world record holder for World’s Largest Comprehensive Hindu Temple.
After lunch, we’ll visit the National Museum nearby, which is among the largest museums in India. A large number of articles ranging from pre-historic era to modern works of art are on display. Later, we will go to Raj Path and see President’s House, India Gate and gardens around it. India Gate is a war memorial constructed in memory of soldiers who died during World War 1 and Anglo Afghan wars. After a short walk, it’ll be time to head back to the hotel.

It’s time to cook some of the things that you sampled the day before in a half day cooking class led by a chef and his family.  The class will begin with making of masala chai (Indian tea) along with some fried Indian snacks, pakodas which are best enjoyed hot. Enjoy your piping hot chai with pakodas as the chef gives you an introduction about Indian food and he things to expect during the cooking class. Then it’ll be the time to don the aprons and start cooking. You’ll learn to cook proper Indian meals consisting of pulao, daaal (lentils), egg plant,raita, rotis (flat Indian breads), stuffed paranthas (stuffed and fried rotis), vegtables and more. Dessert will be in form of halwa. Wake up early and get in to your vehicle for a 3 hours drive to Agra. Leave your luggage at the hotel and reach Taj Mahal, one of the 7 wonders of the world. Enjoy your time there, soaking in all the sights and thousands of small but mind blowing details that most people miss without someone to tell them. Take a walk in the gardens and enjoy the play of water in fountains which increase it’s beauty many times over. Sit on the marble bench and get your photos clicked in the same place where countless celebrities like Diana have posed for pictures. Walk out and reach Agra Fort made of red sandstone for an interesting history lesson. As you walk through various parts of the fort, notice the breathtaking views of Taj Mahal as well as the Agra town which will come up. After this, we’ll take a walk through the centuries old  and famous Agra market and take a look at the wide variety of colourful art and various other things on display.

Agra – Jaipur: City walk of Jaipur and cooking class

After an early wake up, we will drive towards Jaipur and check in the hotel for a couple of hours of rest and freshening up. After this we will begin to explore the Pink City of India by a delightful city walk through it’s old markets and lanes. We’ll  walk through the streets and pink markets enjoying the sights of this beauiful and historic city.  During the Jaipur tour, we’ll cover sights such as Galta jee Temple (with it’s resident population of monkeys and langoors),  Nahargarh Fort and a few more depending upon available time.  Explore the local markets with their mind boggling varieties of colours, fragrances and people selling and buying almost everything under the sun like clothes, jewelery, bangles, shoes, utensils, spices and much more. These traditional markets of Jaipur are a big attraction by themselves.

Jaipur: Playtime with gentle giants

After an early breakfast, it’s time for some sightseeingit’s time to have some fun with friendly and intelligent elephants of Elefantastic. We’ll have the chance to ride them, play, feed and do a tons of fun things with the gentle giants. The trainers take very good care of the animals and they are treated as family members instead of an owned animal. After the lunch, it’s time for a visit to the famous Hawa Mahal (Palace of wind). It’s 5 stories tall and built of red and pink sandstone. Front of Hawa Mahal consists of 953 small windows (jharokhas) which are decorated with intricate lattice work. You’ll then visit Jantar Mantar, an incredible astronomical observatory built in early 18th century by Maharaja Jai Singh. After observatory, we visit Jaipur City Palace which is still partly a royal residence in addition to housing a museum. Then it’s time to visit the famous Jal Mahal, a palace constructed on an island in Man Sagar Lake.

To Osian, Jodhpur photography walks in india

After breakfast, it will be the time to hit the road again as we start driving towards Jodhpur. Normal travel time to reach there is about 5 hours. Along the way, there will be a few rest stops in a few places like Ajmer. Instead of a hotel, the stay in Jodhpur will be a in a campsite in desert in a place called Osian, just outside Jodhpur city. Rest of day will be free for rest and exploration. It will be your first night out, away from the crowd of city close to nature.

Exploring the desert and it’s people.

The day will begin with a an early morning jeep safari of the desert. The driver will take you for an introductory drive of the area. During this drive, you will see sand dunes, see and meet some local villagers. It’s also possible to visit a few traditional Rajasthani villages nearby to observe and experience the life of a typical village in Rajasthan. You can help them tend their animals, visit their homes and taste some of their food. It’s a great opportunity to learn about the way of life of simple Indian villagers. After a bit of rest, we will take a walk in the desert and prepare to enjoy the sunset and activities planned. The dinner, a traditional Rajasthani village meal from the region will be served around a campfire to be enjoyed under open night skies away from city. You can also choose to do a camel safari.

Exploring Jodhpur

The day will be dedicated to exploration of the Blue city, Joshpur. But first You will visit the impressive Mehrangarh fort which is situated 122 m above the city. The impressive fort includes attractions such as Sheesha Mahal, Moti Mahal, Fool Mahal and Takh Vilas, eachone of which is a major attraction by itself. The day can cover a number of attractions like Jaswant Thada, Balsamand Lake, Mandore Gardnes and a few other depending upon available time. To Udaipur via Ranakpur and Kumbhalgarh

Another early morning wake up call and we drive towards Udaipur with a rest and sightseeing stop at the famous Jain Temples of Ranakpur. These temples were constructed between 14th to 15th century and the architectural style is completely unique to whatyou’ll find elsewhere in India. One temple contains 1444 marble pillars, each one carved in exquisite detail. After the temples, we’ll drive to Kumbhalgarh where we’ll see the awe inspiring Kumbhalgarh fort with its 15 feet thick walls which extend for 38 km. The walls are second largest in Asia and have withstood the ravages of time quite well. There are around 360 temples inside the whole complex. After this, we’ll drive to Udaipur and reach our hotel by night.

Udaipur Sightseeing & Cooking Class Rajasthan heritage tours

We’ll start the day with a visit to City Palace museum and admire it’s vast collection of medieval and ancient artifacts housed in a beautiful building. The palace was built over a period of 400 years and is a mix of various architectural styles. Next, we’ll visit Jagdish Temple and observe the superb craftsmanship that makes this temple one of a kind. This white temple was built in 1651 and attracts a large number of devotees and tourists from distant places. A cooking class specialsing in Mewari cuisine can be arranged on request in evening in which you can learn a few signature dishes of Mewari cuisine from a chef or in a local home.

Lakes of Udaipur

The day will include a visit to Fateh Sagar lake, an artificial lake built in 1651. it’s situated in a picturesque setting with Aravali hills at 3 sides. Walk out and reach Agra Fort made of red sandstone for an interesting history lesson. As you walk through various parts of the fort, notice the breathtaking views of Taj Mahal as well as the Agra town which will come up. After this, we’ll take a walk through the centuries old  and famous Agra market and take a look at the wide variety of colourful art and various other things on display.

Agra – Jaipur: City walk of Jaipur and cooking class

After an early wake up, we will drive towards Jaipur and check in the hotel for a couple of hours of rest and freshening up. After this we will begin to explore the Pink City of India by a delightful city walk through it’s old markets and lanes. We’ll  walk through the streets and pink markets enjoying the sights of this beauiful and historic city.  During the Jaipur tour, we’ll cover sights such as Galta jee Temple (with it’s resident population of monkeys and langoors),  Nahargarh Fort and a few more depending upon available time.  Explore the local markets with their mind boggling varieties of colours, fragrances and people selling and buying almost everything under the sun like clothes, jewelery, bangles, shoes, utensils, spices and much more. These traditional markets of Jaipur are a big attraction by themselves.

You can also opt for a a traditional Rajasthani cooking class in evening which you can learn some famous dishes of the region.

Jaipur: Playtime with gentle giants

After an early breakfast, it’s time for some sightseeingit’s time to have some fun with friendly and intelligent elephants of Elefantastic. We’ll have the chance to ride them, play, feed and do a tons of fun things with the gentle giants. The trainers take very good care of the animals and they are treated as family members instead of an owned animal. After the lunch, it’s time for a visit to the famous Hawa Mahal (Palace of wind). It’s 5 stories tall and built of red and pink sandstone. Front of Hawa Mahal consists of 953 small windows (jharokhas) which are decorated with intricate lattice work. You’ll then visit Jantar Mantar, an incredible astronomical observatory built in early 18th century by Maharaja Jai Singh. After observatory, we visit Jaipur City Palace which is still partly a royal residence in addition to housing a museum. Then it’s time to visit the famous Jal Mahal, a palace constructed on an island in Man Sagar Lake.

Back to Delhi

This will be the last day of journey as we’ll get in to our vehicles and drive back towards Delhi. If any of the guests need a drop to airport or railway station to their journey elsewhere, it will be arranged according to their requirements.

Optional:

  • Tiger Safari in Ranthambore : Ranthambore on the way to Jaipur from Agra is one of the best places in India for a jungle safari. A stay of 1 or more days can be arranged there in which you can do a jungle safari with very good chances of spotting the Royal Bengal tigers in their natural habitat.
  • Varanasi, Udaipur & Jodhpur: A  visit to Varanasi, Jodhpur or Udaipur for 2 or more days can also be added to this trip. Please see this UdaipurVaranasi and Jodhpur itinerary for details.
  • Photography: A specialist photography guide is available for New Delhi and can be added in Agra, Jaipur and other cities on request. The photography guide will take pictures of guests, sights, food etc. and will also help them use their own cameras better.
